Library at The Forum: Southend-on-Sea

Southend Library Service provides an extensive collection of books, DVDs, and other resources to support your learning, reading and leisure. Membership is free for all libraries in Southend. The full online catalogue including stock in every public library in Southend can be accessed anytime for reservations or renewals via the Library Catalogue.

Libraries are not just full of books of all shapes, sizes and subjects including books in Large Print. We also lend DVDs, spoken word books and magazines. You can even download e-books and e-audio books for free E-books.

Amongst many other things we also offer:

  • Regular Storyrhymes sessions at every Library – all are listed on this website, just search for the keyword Storyrhymes or call 01702 212120.
  • Help with the many book groups that meet both in or outside libraries.
  • A Home Library Service for those who have difficulties accessing the Library.
  • A Mobile Library serving a large number of residential homes in Southend.
  • For more information on the Home Library Service, the Mobile Library or book groups please e-mail librarydevelopment@southend.gov.uk or call 01702 534123.
  • Free Internet access and Microsoft Office in all libraries. Please note that the first hour is free with a charge of £1.80 per hour for extra time. There are charges for printing.
  • Free access to many online learning and information resources that can be used both in the Library and from home using your Library card.
  • Many special events including author visits for both adults and children. Contact libraryevents@southend.gov.uk or 01702 212573.
  • Membership is free and open to anyone who lives in the UK. Click here to log in or join online.

A range of audio described DVDs which enable people with sight problems to enjoy films to the full are available through Southend Libraries. Spoken word books in a variety of formats, Quick Reads and Large Print books are also available.
