Careers in childcare have developed over the past years and now often require qualified staffed that are often trained in First Aid and have adequate knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. We recommend that before choosing this path you conduct relevant research.

The Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years [PACEY] has a good range of information on the qualifications and training needed to works as a Childminder, Nursery Worker or Nanny.

Becoming a Childminder

You can apply through Ofsted direct to become a Registered Childminder, however, if you live in the Southend Borough Council area there is also a Local Authority requirement to attend the Pre-registration session and EYFS session.

We also recommend that you complete relevant research as to the need of childminders in your area.

Childcare Training

Southend Council does not provide any training advice or financial support. Please contact local Colleges for information on available Childcare courses. Most Childcare courses require a minimum amount of work experience during the course at it may be your responsibility to find a placement.
