Breaks for Carers

The services below are available for all Carers (although some require the person being cared for to live in Southend-on-Sea Borough). More support is available for Carers who qualify for a Carers’ budget.

1. Carers Emergency Respite Scheme (CERS)

The aim of this service is to provide Carers with peace of mind if they are suddenly taken ill, or find themselves unable to return home, as might happen if they are admitted into hospital. Carers registered with the scheme are supported to create an emergency plan for such situations. Trained and experienced Care Workers are then mobilised to provide up to 48 hours of support, enabling the individual receiving care to remain in their own home and avoid admission into a residential centre. The service is available for up to 72 hours over a bank holiday.

Carers who have registered with CERS can nominate family or friends who CERS can contact in an emergency.  They can provide up to 48 hours of free support at home by a trained member of staff for the person you care for (up to 72 hours on a Bank Holiday).

Qualifying criteria: the cared-for adult lives in Southend.  The service is free. Contact Ashley Care on 01702 348142 or go to www.ashleycare.com.
