For all enquiries, please see the safeguarding website for the most current information:

The Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB) aims to ensure the safety and protection of adults with care and support needs within the borough; that is, adults who have care or support needs and who are subsequently less able than others to defend themselves against the threat of abuse, exploitation, or neglect.

The Southend Safeguarding Adults Board aims for Service Users to:

  • Develop a culture that does not tolerate abuse.
  • Raise awareness about abuse.
  • Prevent abuse from happening wherever possible.
  • Where abuse does happen, support and safeguard the rights of people who are harmed; to stop abuse from continuing.
  • Access services they need, including advocacy and post-abuse support.
  • Gain improved access to legal services.

The main aim of the Board is:

  • To consult with adults at risk, and their carers, to ensure that the safeguarding process is as efficient as possible.
  • To constantly review SET (Southend, Essex and Thurrock) procedures to ensure they are up to date.
  • To act on feedback from sub groups.
  • To ensure that training carried out across Southend meets the SET Training Strategy.
  • To carry out serious safeguarding adults reviews and, where necessary, change our practice, policy, or protocols.
  • To link the work of the Safeguarding Board to the wider crime and disorder reduction work.
